Characteristics of The
Chinese Element Fire

Those born in a year ruled by the Chinese element Fire are born leaders. Their drive and ambition are unsurpassed. They are natural motivators and their enthusiasm, vitality and flare for the dramatic easily draws people in. If there is also fire in the astrological sign, watch out! The Fire element will bring out the aggression and drive of the sign. With some balance and emotional management, this can be a positive thing, but without it, there is an added tenancy towards aggression and violence.

Those influenced by Fire are the doers, the risk takers and the trail blazers. Danger seems to excite them. The more dangerous something is, the more they want to do it. The higher the stakes, the more motivation they seem to find. Those born into a Fire year are given to taking the path less traveled, and taking on new adventures. They are the ones who can not wait to see what’s around the next bend. They are creative and original, and meet their challenges head on.

Their aggressive tenancies, and their sheer determination can take them far, but it has to be moderated with some compassion and understanding for others. The element of Fire creates a need to act quickly and without thinking, which can lead to impulsiveness. Only after the fact, will the realization hit that the need for diplomacy, courtesy, or stopping to think before acting would have been the qualities a situation actually needed.

Positive Fire, the active or yang part, is felt when the intense drive and determination of fire gets in the way of thought. The impulsiveness and the destructive nature of fire can leave lots of damage in its wake.

Negative Fire, the passive or yin part, is felt in the ease of attracting others. The outgoing and original nature of fire draws people in like moths to a flame. Unfortunately, there is always the possibility of being burned. Fire has an explosive nature, that even in its calmest moments can suddenly erupt and burn all those around them.

The delicate balance of positive and negative aspects must be maintained by those ruled by the Chinese element Fire. Possibly even more so than that of the other Chinese elements, due to their sheer explosive nature. They must learn to think before they act, and heed the advise of others. Controlling their emotions and their outbursts of both emotion and action are the keys to their success. If control and balance is maintained, there is no stopping Fire from obtaining the absolute heights of their desires.
